Sometimes, the most extraordinary acts of kindness begin with a simple encounter, a compassionate heart, and the determination to make a difference.
Today, we celebrate and honour Madam Janet Akakpo, Ms Clarissa Akakpo, and their remarkable friends in London, whose compassion has crossed borders to bring hope to children battling cancer in Ghana.

In March this year, Ms Clarissa, CEO of Aguma Tea, and her mum, Madam Janet Akakpo, visited the Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital to celebrate her birthday in a truly meaningful way, by making a generous donation toward treating children with cancer.
During that visit, Madam Janet Akakpo, became curious about how we provided care. Having experienced life in a high-income country, where comprehensive systems support childhood cancer treatment, she was deeply moved to learn how heavily our patients had depended on intermittent donor generosity over the past six years.
She was particularly troubled by one painful reality: although many childhood cancers are highly curable, where a child is born and lives remains a powerful determinant of whether that child survives.

Back in London, she rallied her friends, the Crafts Group, around a beautiful idea. The Crafts Group was started to bring women from all walks of life together into a safe space where they can learn together, practice their skills and teach each other new skills. Each person knitted a piece of fabric, which was brought together into two magnificent blankets; a tapestry of compassion, solidarity, and hope.
They auctioned the blankets and donated all proceeds to our Paediatric Oncology Unit upon her return to Ghana. Beyond the financial contribution, these beautiful blankets carry a profound message: No child fighting cancer should ever feel forgotten, and no act of kindness is too small to make a difference.
To Madam Janet, Madam Clarissa, and every wonderful friend who contributed a stitch, a moment, or a gift, we extend our deepest gratitude. You have woven more than a blanket; you have woven hope into the lives of children and families facing unimaginable challenges.
We are especially heartened by Madam Janet's renewed determination to continue this remarkable journey of giving. She says, “Another blanket is already on the way, together with toys and books that have also been donated by many people in our community, which I will send as soon as the box is full. My donation is not a one-off; I will continue, for as long as possible, to support the Foundation to see children cured of cancer”.

May the universe continue to conspire in favour of such beautiful dreams, bringing compassionate hearts into our path. When compassion meets innovation, hope knows no borders.
