Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana (CCCG) participated in the SIOP Africa Congress 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria, a leading continental platform convened by SIOP Africa that brings together stakeholders working to improve childhood cancer outcomes across Africa.
As an organisation committed to improving access to quality paediatric oncology care in Ghana, CCCG’s participation was both strategic and necessary. The Congress provided a valuable opportunity to engage with emerging research, strengthen partnerships, and align our work with global best practices in childhood cancer care.
CCCG’s engagement went beyond attendance. Programme Manager, Salma S. Fuseini, facilitated one of the breakout sessions on Civil Society & Parents: Palliative Care, demonstrating CCCG’s contribution to both the scientific and civil society discussions at the Congress.

In line with our commitment to professional development and research, CCCG supported Oncology Nurse Patricia Boamah to present her study on Paediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS) Chart Audit at the Paediatric Oncology Unit of Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
Her work highlights the importance of early detection of clinical deterioration in improving patient outcomes. This aligns with CCCG’s broader efforts to strengthen clinical care through training, tools, and locally relevant innovations, including the development of educational video resources on early warning signs.
Key insights from the Congress reaffirmed that improving childhood cancer outcomes requires a systems-based approach. While medical advancements are critical, they must be complemented by:
· Strong health systems
· Skilled healthcare workforce
· Reduced financial and social barriers to care
· Effective collaboration across stakeholders
CCCG continues to address these gaps through integrated support, including financial assistance, nutritional and psychosocial care, and transport support to reduce treatment interruptions.
CCCG’s Founder, Dr. Nihad Salifu, who also serves as Head of Paediatric Oncology at Greater Accra Regional Hospital, continues to provide leadership in advancing paediatric oncology care. At the Congress, she delivered remarks as she passed on the Rising Star recognition, reflecting her continued impact at both national and continental levels.
Participation in the SIOP Africa Congress reinforces CCCG’s commitment to continuous learning, strategic partnerships, and systems strengthening.

We remain dedicated to ensuring that every child in Ghana has access to timely, quality cancer care, and a real chance at life.
