Strengthening Partnerships for Impact: CCCG at the ALSAC Sub-Saharan Africa Paediatric Oncology Workshop

Last week, Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana (CCCG) had the privilege of participating in the ALSAC Sub-Saharan Africa Workshop on Paediatric Oncology held in Lagos, Nigeria, a convening that brought together organizations across the region committed to improving childhood cancer outcomes.

CCCG was proudly represented by  Ms.Salma S. Fuseini, Programme Manager, and Mr. Crepindale Quist, Head of Strategic Communications, both members of the 7th Cohort of the ALSAC-funded Global Scholars Programme. Their participation reflects CCCG’s ongoing commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing leadership, and advancing sustainable solutions in paediatric oncology care.

The workshop created a dynamic platform for peer exchange, enabling organizations to share experiences, reflect on challenges, and identify practical solutions to improve service delivery. Across sessions, a central theme emerged, collective learning is essential to building resilient and impactful health systems.

In the opening session, Drew Philips, Senior Director at ALSAC Global, emphasized a powerful principle: “strong foundations are rooted in their own health systems.” This message resonated deeply with CCCG’s approach, prioritizing locally driven solutions that strengthen national systems and ensure long-term sustainability.

A major highlight was the session on Governance and Finance Best Practices, led by ALSAC Chief Finance Officer, Kera Getter, who shared a practical and thought-provoking insight: “minimize surprises so you have time to react.” This underscored the importance of proactive financial management, strong internal controls, and forward planning in ensuring organisational stability and sustained impact.

The session on Strategic Partnerships, facilitated by Maya Smith, Senior Advisor of Corporate Relations at ALSAC, further highlighted the role of intentional, values-driven collaborations in expanding reach and sustainability.

CCCG’s alliance with ALSAC represents a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening paediatric oncology systems in Ghana. Through this collaboration, CCCG continues to benefit from technical expertise, capacity-building opportunities, and access to global best practices in fundraising, governance, and programme delivery.

Participation in the Global Scholars Programme is equipping CCCG’s leadership with critical skills in strategic planning, donor engagement, and organizational development, all of which directly contribute to improving care outcomes for children undergoing cancer treatment in Ghana.

CCCG remains committed to translating these learnings into action, strengthening governance systems, deepening partnerships, and enhancing programme delivery to ensure that no child is denied access to life-saving cancer care.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the entire ALSAC team for curating such a meaningful and impactful workshop, and for their continued partnership in advancing childhood cancer care across Africa.

Together, we are building stronger systems, empowering institutions, and giving more children a fighting chance.
