Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana (CCCG) continues to advance its mission of improving access to quality paediatric oncology care through strong institutional partnerships.
On 7th April 2026, CCCG’s management and board engaged an eight-member leadership team of Tamale Teaching Hospital to initiate discussions toward formalizing a long-term partnership. This marks a significant milestone in strengthening coordinated efforts to improve childhood cancer outcomes in Northern Ghana.
Since 2023, CCCG has provided critical, life-saving support to the Paediatric Oncology Unit at Tamale Teaching Hospital, aimed at reducing barriers to treatment and improving care outcomes.
Key interventions have included:
· Financial support for cancer treatment
· Nutritional assistance for patients
· Transportation support to ensure continuity of care
These efforts have contributed to reducing treatment interruptions and supporting families through one of the most challenging periods of their lives.
As the scope and impact of this support have grown, so has the need for a more structured and coordinated approach. After nearly three years of collaboration, both CCCG and Tamale Teaching Hospital recognize that informal arrangements are no longer sufficient to meet the increasing and complex demands of paediatric oncology care.
Formalizing this partnership is both timely and necessary. A structured framework will:
· Strengthen coordination between CCCG and hospital leadership
· Ensure clear roles, accountability, and governance
· Improve efficiency and reduce duplication of efforts
· Provide a sustainable foundation for scaling support
In a context where childhood cancer survival rates remain significantly lower than global averages, coordinated systems of care are essential.
The urgency of this partnership was underscored during the meeting.
Dr. Catherine Yijugsah, Paediatric Oncologist, emphasized a critical reality:“Cancer treatment is expensive.” Her statement reflects the daily challenges faced by families and reinforces the need for sustained, coordinated support systems.
The Medical Director, Prof. Alhassan Mumuni—standing in for the hospital’s CEO—expressed appreciation for CCCG’s timely and impactful contributions. He noted that formalizing the partnership will streamline support, improve resource efficiency, and ultimately enhance patient care.
Dr. Halwani Fuseini, Head of the Paediatric Unit, also conveyed gratitude for CCCG’s continued commitment to improving outcomes for children undergoing treatment.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to formalizing the partnership and deepening collaboration in the years ahead. This milestone reflects a strategic shift, from providing support to strengthening systems.
At CCCG, we remain committed to bringing care closer to every child battling cancer while contributing to a more resilient and responsive health system.
We invite partners, donors, and supporters to join us in ensuring that no child is denied care due to financial barriers, because every child deserves not just treatment, but a real chance to survive and thrive.
