πŸ’› International Childhood Cancer Day 2026 – A Gathering of Strength, Hope and Healing πŸ’›

Yesterday, on Saturday, 14th February 2026 at 9AM, Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana (CCCG) organized a special session for the Childhood Cancer Parents Support Group at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital to mark International Childhood Cancer Day, which we celebrate today.

Though the day came with rain, it felt symbolic β€” like the sky itself acknowledging the weight of the journey many parents carry. Yet just as rain nourishes the earth and makes new life possible, the conversations we shared nurtured hope, resilience, and renewed strength.

We were honored to host our guest speaker, Ann Mensah-Kufuor, Clinical Psychologist at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, who treated the topic of psychosocial support in childhood cancer with depth, compassion, and excellence. Her insights brought clarity, comfort, and practical guidance to parents navigating one of life’s most challenging experiences.

The parents were not just present β€” they were deeply participatory. The session created space for education, empowerment, and encouragement. It became emotional at moments, especially as discussions touched on the painful reality of losing a child to cancer and how caregivers can cope psychologically through such grief. Those were heavy but necessary conversations β€” filled with honesty, tears, and shared strength.

Beautifully, there were also powerful suggestions about strengthening peer support β€” encouraging parents who have been on this journey longer to walk closely with those whose children have been newly diagnosed. Because no parent should ever feel alone in this fight.

Spending Valentine’s Day with these courageous parents reminded us that love is not just flowers and gifts β€” love is showing up, standing together, listening, supporting, and holding space for one another. πŸ’›

As we mark International Childhood Cancer Day today, we reaffirm our commitment to closing the care gap, strengthening psychosocial support, and building a community where every child and every parent feels supported.

Together, we continue to fight. Together, we continue to hope. πŸŽ—οΈπŸ’›
